We stand in solidarity with Forsyth County in our disappointment in several Federal and State legislators who voted in favor of Republican measures, breaking with the Democratic Party’s platform and vision for our collective future.

Make no mistake: we will not stand aside and watch our democracy flounder or tolerate actions that embolden the extremists within the Republican Party. In a time where we must stand firm in our beliefs and engage with our local and state communities, we cannot risk souring potential support for Democratic causes.

As the Forsyth Democrats so rightfully highlight, the public is frustrated. We cannot undermine the hard work of our dedicated volunteers, who are fighting against radical Republicans and who look to us to be leaders in our communities.

Our supporters need to believe that Democrats in office will stay true to our values and operate with integrity. 

Integrity means not voting against the livelihoods of sexual assault survivors, our immigrant communities who are facing unlawful detainment and expulsion, our trans and non-binary siblings, and our neighbors whose longevity depends upon strict environmental protections.

Integrity occurs when our party elders and supporters nonviolently use their voices and power to demand action and commit to “Good Trouble.”

We concur with our Forsyth Democrat’s unwavering support for unity and accountability, and we are steadfast in ensuring the Democratic Party remains a “big tent” organization that hears differences of opinion and new considerations. However, we expect our elected officials to vote in the public interest and ensure their actions support our Party’s overarching strategy.

Furthermore, it troubles us, as the Fulton County Democratic Committee, that our county’s elected officials voted against our core values and for their self-interest. To members of the Fulton County Democratic Party and the broader community who have voted for our values, please know that we are committed to you.

We will not stop fighting alongside you, and we vow to support candidates for office who will do the same. We will hold our elected officials accountable – especially those representing this county.

We will continue to use our platform for the greater good and uplift those voices that align with our Party’s values and the vast majority of the American electorate. We echo calls for unity, transparency, consistency, and action.

We will work to hold the line against extremist Republicans and encroaching fascism.
