Post seat holders

The elected voting members of the Fulton County Democratic Party Committee, listed by county commission district.

Post seat holders are the 111 elected voting members of the Fulton County Democratic Party Committee. Any Democrat in Fulton County can join the committee as a general member, but only the members elected to a post vote on party business.

The by-laws ask three things of them: keep a membership in good standing, attend the business meetings, and organize where they live. That last one covers voter registration, get-out-the-vote and precinct work in their own neighborhoods.

Each post has a four-year term. Odd-numbered posts are filled in presidential election years and even-numbered posts in gubernatorial years, at a caucus held within 45 days of the general primary. In practice about half the committee turns over every two years.

They are listed below by Fulton County commission district. At-large seats cover the whole county. The by-laws provide 25 posts in each district and 25 at large, 175 in total; this roster holds the 111 we have on record. Looking for Fulton’s State Committee members? That is a different body: see State Committee Members.

The role, from the county by-laws (Article III, Section 4):

All PSH’s are expected to maintain a membership in good standing each year. PSH’s are expected to attend all business meetings and notify the Membership Chair when they cannot attend. PSH’s are expected to participate in FCDPC activities and provide leadership within their own neighborhoods and regular spheres of influence to further the goals of the FCDPC; this includes Get Out the Vote (GOTV), voter outreach, and precinct organizing efforts.

— FCDPC By-Laws, Article III, Section 4 (as amended May 9, 2019)

The term, from the Democratic Party of Georgia Charter (Article VII):

Elected County Committee members shall be elected either by a primary ballot or a Party District Caucus. Half of the elected membership of each County Committee shall be elected in Gubernatorial election years and the remainder shall be elected in presidential election years. Elected County Committee members shall serve four (4) year terms except where terms are affected by reapportionment.
